GRANT AKIYAMA ǀ TULSA, OKLAHOMA
Blue & Yellow Bowls, 2022
stoneware
7 x 10 x 7 and 6.5 x 11 x 7
ARTIST STATEMENT
My current work, Poprocks, illuminates clay’s geologic origins, innate forms, phantasmagorical rhythms, and rousing surfaces. Through manic colors and experimental surfaces, I aim to illustrate the mercurial moods found beneath our feet. Poprocks synthesizes a sense of chthonian, earthen nature through a tangible lens of imaginable utility.
