Clothes You Can't Remove: Pre and Post Breonna Taylor
Kathy Brown - Denton, Texas
Clothes You Can’t Remove: Pre and Post Breonna Taylor, 2020
hand sewn fabric strips, wire over mannequin head
22 x 15 x 17
Artist Statement
Honoring the collective memory and indignation of everyday black women, like the Fantastic Negrito’s (2018) lamentation/rage, “The Suit That Won’t Come off,” my piece morphed into a garment. The mannequin models the clothes, which onlookers attempt to remove/wear. Post-mourning, in the morning, we still choose joy as a revolutionary act.
