ARTIST STATEMENT
Ghislaine Bazir works from tiny family photographs. From these black and white images, she tries to weave the memory of these disappeared, forgotten, often anonymous Caribbean people. The Alice and Anita series talks about two little girls in Marie-Galante in 1937 and evokes the discreet violence of their lives.

ARTIST STATEMENT
A net is semipermeable, allowing some things to pass through but not others. It separates fish from water, butterflies from the wind, trapeze artists from the ground. When formed into a net, glass rods become stronger, occupy more dimensions with the ability to expand. The work oscillates between disappearance and infinity.

ARTIST STATEMENT
I have recently distilled my studio practice into two branches of research - pattern-formed enameled vessels, and spring-based mechanisms.  These pieces are the result. While creating each object, I revel in process, problem-solving, and design, and hope that the finished vessel carries within it the joy of its creation.

ARTIST STATEMENT
My work explores the personal and intrapersonal relationships we have with our physical, mental, and emotional bodies. Using traditional and modern techniques, works are created to show a visual representation of individual’s trauma experiences as well as the universality of loss. My works are meant to elicit an empathic response from the audience.

ARTIST STATEMENT
Invasive/Native explores the dichotomy between native and invasive species of Hawai‘i. The Melaleuca quinquenervia is native to Australia and was introduced to Hawai‘i in 1917 to combat erosion on mountainsides. The species is now considered to be invasive and is being removed by the Hawai‘i State DLNR.

ARTIST STATEMENT
I’m interested in emulating a living organism using the material from a dead one.  It’s like taxidermy if you completely disregard what the animal looked like and start with only a chunk of the animal.
