“non hominem scientiam et disciplinam” - does knowledge and discipline make a man?

This piece is asking about the mental side of masculinity, the thinker, philosopher, the academic, brains before brawn, wisdom before impulse. In breaking down this image, we have a black background, a dark grey tablecloth, snapdragons in a white vase, orchids draped over a bowl, and books that range in topics of study (erotic prose, photography, and boundaries in architecture/design). Between the use of snapdragons and orchids in this work, I am describing the nature of a passionate academic that studies life and works to understand it. With the use of oranges and purples in the flowers, I’m pushing the notions of creativity and communication. The use of black/grey/white in the image, there is the push of transition, from being hidden to being in the fore with who you are as a man.
